Athletic Director
Jared Manning
317 462 9195Jared Manning serves as the Athletic Director at Greenfield-Central High School, where he has spent his professional career serving students, coaches, families, and the Greenfield-Central community. A graduate of Purdue University, Manning earned his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education with a minor in Health and Safety Teaching in 2004. He later earned a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Supervision from Ball State University in 2012. Manning began his career with Greenfield-Central Community School Corporation in 2004 as a physical education teacher. Throughout his career, he has served as an educator, coach, and administrator at multiple levels within the district. Athletics have always been an important part of Manning’s career. Prior to moving into athletic administration, he coached varsity boys soccer, junior varsity boys basketball, baseball, and middle school basketball and soccer. His coaching experience provided him with a firsthand understanding of the impact athletics and coaches can have on student-athletes. As Athletic Director, Manning is a member of the Indiana Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association and National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. Greenfield-Central has also hosted numerous IHSAA sectional and regional championship events during his tenure. Manning is committed to providing a positive educational athletic experience for Greenfield-Central student-athletes while supporting coaches and creating an environment in which families, fans, and the community can take pride in Cougar Athletics. Jared and his wife, April (Class of ‘99) have two children who attend Greenfield-Central schools. -
Assistant Athletic Director
Elizabeth Mercer
317 462 9195Elizabeth Mercer has served as Assistant Athletic Director at Greenfield-Central High School since June 2015. In her role, she helps oversee the day-to-day operations of the high school athletic department and works closely with student-athletes, coaches, staff, families, and the community to support Greenfield-Central Athletics. Mercer began her career in education and athletics at Western Boone Jr./Sr. High School, her alma mater. From 2010–2015, she coached girls’ basketball and volleyball at multiple levels, ranging from seventh grade through varsity assistant. She also served as a special education instructional assistant, substitute teacher, and tutor during her time at Western Boone. A 2008 graduate of Western Boone, Mercer attended Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), where she was a member of the women’s basketball program. She graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a concentration in Sports Management. She later completed the Transition to Teaching program at Indiana Wesleyan University and earned Indiana teaching certifications in Physical Education and Health Education. In addition to her responsibilities as Assistant Athletic Director, Mercer taught Health Education at Greenfield-Central from 2015–2018. Her background as a student-athlete, coach, teacher, and administrator has provided her with a broad perspective on education-based athletics and the impact athletic programs can have on students. Mercer is also active in athletic administration beyond Greenfield-Central. She served as the Indiana Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (IIAAA) Section II Minority Director representing District IV from 2024–2026 before transitioning to Membership Chair in May 2026. She has also served as a team host for the IHSAA Girls Basketball State Finals since 2025, helping welcome participating teams and assisting with championship-day operations. -
Athletic Administrative Assistant
Breanna Herbst
317 462 9195Breanna Herbst is a proud Greenfield native and 2001 graduate of Greenfield-Central High School. She went on to attend Purdue University, graduating in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture and a minor in Food and Agribusiness Management. After college, Breanna spent nearly 20 years working for her parents’ business. She enjoyed the opportunity to work alongside her family and gained valuable experience before her parents eventually retired and closed the business. Breanna then joined Greenfield-Central Community Schools, beginning her time at Eden Elementary. She spent one year as an Instructional Assistant and two years serving as the Health Assistant before moving to Greenfield-Central High School in 2025, where she currently serves as the Athletic Secretary. In addition to her role in the high school office, Breanna is also involved with Greenfield-Central athletics as an assistant coach for the high school softball team. Her passion for softball extends beyond coaching, as she spends much of her free time traveling and cheering on her own daughters as they play. Breanna and her husband, Blake Herbst, have two daughters, Chesney, 15, and Paisley, 10. Outside of school and softball, the Herbst family enjoys life on their mini farm, where they have goats and chickens. Breanna enjoys being involved in the Greenfield-Central community and feels fortunate to be able to combine her love for the school, athletics, and children through both her work and coaching.
