GC Tennis Sweeps New Pal 5-0 in Sectional Opener Greenfield-Central boys tennis opened sectional play with a dominant 5-0 win over New Palestine, showing clear growth since their regular season matchup where they won 4-1. The Cougars were strong across the board, sweeping all five courts in convincing fashion. Alex Michalek struck first at No. 2 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win, setting the tone early. The No. 1 doubles team of Jacob Welch and Kasen Jarnecke followed with a solid 6-4, 6-0 victory. No. 1 singles Nathan Roberts sealed the team win with a 6-1, 6-4 result. Andrew White added to the momentum at No. 3 singles, battling through a tight second set to win 6-2, 7-5. The final point came from the No. 2 doubles team of Ethan Ortwein and Raleigh Gantt, who bounced back after dropping the first set in a tiebreak to win 6-7(2), 6-2, 6-2. The Cougars will play in the sectional final against Mt. Vernon on Thursday.
