Varsity Volleyball Places 2nd in Cougar Challenge

The varsity volleyball team came in 2nd place out of 8 teams in the 2025 Cougar Challenge. GC started the morning with a 2-1 win over Pike High School. Pike took the first set 25-19, but the Cougars came back in set two with a 25-20 win. GC controlled the ball in the third set and took the game 15-9. Next the Cougars faced South Decatur. This time GC was able to close out the match in two straight sets. With momentum from their first win of the day, the Cougars started strong and took the first set 25-17. Serving runs from Alex Muegge, Mia Reed, and Olivia Reeves helped lead the Cougars to a second set win of 25-16 over South Decatur. In the third match of the day, GC won 2-1 over Whiteland High School. Whiteland was in control the entire first set, and defeated the Cougars 25-11. GC didn't give up - serving runs by Alex Muegge and Demi Muegge pushed the Cougars to a 25-12 win over Whiteland in set two. In a third set between two teams battling for a spot in the championship game, the Cougars came out on top 15-10. The Cougars made it to the championship game against the Batesville Bulldogs for the second year in a row. This time it was Batesville that came out on top 2-0 over GC. Batesville had a strong attack and controlled the ball throughout the first set; taking the set 25-17. The Cougars came out stronger in the second set and pushed back against the Bulldogs. GC was in the lead for most of the second set, but Batesville's was able to come back and close out the game 25-21. Overall it was a solid day for GC volleyball! GC's Alex Muegge made the 2025 Cougar Challenge All-Tournament Team. Varsity volleyball is now 14-9 this season.
