Varsity volleyball played a tough match on the road at New Castle. The Cougars got off to a slow start in the first set, getting down 17-5. Throughout the set, GC battled back and even scored 6 points in a row, bringing their score up to 20. Unfortunately the Cougars couldn't clinch the win, and New Castle took the first set 25-20. GC started out steady in set two, going point for point with the Trojans and eventually taking an early lead of 12-9. Tied 21-21 late in the second set, both teams fought back and forth for the win. Ultimately New Castle pulled through with a 25-23 win in set two. The pressure was high going into the third set, and once again it was a close battle, tied 7-7 early in set three. Then the Trojans went on a 9 point scoring run in the middle of the set, extending their lead of 13-11 to 22-11. The Cougars couldn't come back from their deficit and dropped the third set 16-25. GC had some great moments and high energy, but it wasn't enough to give them the win over conference opponent New Castle. Varsity volleyball is now 9-6 this season.
