Kickin for Cancer Championship – GC vs Lawrenceburg We came out with a new defensive adjustment tonight to test what we could create, and it showed well against a strong attacking Lawrenceburg side. They pushed forward early, but after nine minutes Aubrey Bush worked a promising run deep. A few minutes later, we created a chance inside the 18 that didn’t quite develop. At the 14:28 mark, Jessica Kleinknight made an attack down the far right side, forcing the keeper into action. Lawrenceburg answered with pressure of their own, and at 27:30 they had a dangerous look that went just wide of the post. The first half closed in a scoreless 0-0 draw. Seven minutes into the second half, Paige McCarley worked her way into the box to earn a corner kick. Off the delivery, Ainsley Robinson struck a shot that narrowly cleared the crossbar. At the 28th minute, Lawrenceburg found the net to take a 1-0 lead. Just seconds later, at 28:30, Aubrey Bush tested the keeper again, forcing a tough save. Bush was then taken down in the box at the 29th minute, setting up a penalty kick that Robinson calmly finished to level the score 1-1. In the 35th minute, McCarley switched the field with precision, finding Kleinknight, who buried the shot to put GC ahead 2-1. The defense locked in from there, standing strong until the final whistle. The defensive unit was outstanding tonight—led by goalkeeper Carol Felver, with huge performances from Robinson, Brooklyn Emmerling, Milli Aldridge, Chloe Gardener, Paislee Brown, Mer Rodriguez, Mia Brinkruff and Lexi Kerkhof. McCarley’s control of the midfield was key, while offensively Kinley Smith, Kleinknight, Romie Bennett, Liberty Williams, and Bush all kept the pressure on throughout. Final: GC 2, Lawrenceburg 1 Player of the Match: Paige McCarley GC is back in action Monday evening with the JV facing East Central.
