The varsity volleyball team had a great day at the 2025 Kay Saunders Classic! The long day started with a 2-0 sweep over Blackford. The Cougars won by set scores of 25-11 and 25-18. The second game of the day was another 2-0 win for GC! The Cougars took on Marion High School, and won by set scores of 25-12 and 25-11. GC finished their last game of pool play with the same tempo as their first two games. The Cougars faced the Tipton Blue Devils, and once again took the match in two straight sets. GC won 25-17 and 25-16. The most competitive game of the day was the championship match against the Western High School Panthers. After sweeping through their first three matches of the day, GC came out with a lot of momentum and took the first set against Western 25-16. Some unforced errors by GC gave Western an advantage in the second set, and the Cougars were unable to come back from their mistakes. Western took the second set 25-21. The Cougars have only played one other tie-breaking set this season - a 5th set loss to Scecina. This time, GC came out strong and started the third set with a 6-1 lead, prompting a timeout from Western. The team continued to keep the pressure on and extended their lead to 11-5. The Cougars closed out their day with a third set win, 15-11. It was a long day for the varsity volleyball team, but they battled together and came out on top! Varsity volleyball is now 9-5 this season.
