GC Tennis Wins over New Castle

Cougars Open Conference Play with Win Over New Castle The Boys Tennis team kicked off their conference season with an impressive 4-1 victory over New Castle on Tuesday. The match featured intense rallies and competitive play across the board, including two matches that stretched to three sets. Match of the Night honors went to freshman Andrew White, who showed tremendous grit and resilience. After dropping the first set 5-7, White battled back to take the next two sets 6-4, 6-3, securing a hard-fought win at No. 3 singles. 2 singles Alex Michalek was first off the court winning 6-3, 6-0. 1 singles Nathan Roberts followed next, winning 6-3, 6-1. The No. 2 doubles team of Ethan Ortwein and Raleigh Gantt clinched the overall match for the Cougars with a solid 6-2, 6-1 victory. The No. 1 doubles pairing of Jacob Welch and Kasen Jarnecke put up a fight in a tight three-set match, taking the first set 6-2 before ultimately falling 6-2, 2-6, 3-6. The JV squad also had a strong showing, defeating New Castle 7-1. JV winners included: Nash Berty, Kane Dreesen, Guyton Hutcherson, Kayden Green, Jack Herrin, Sal Sanchez, Kolton Utter, Landon Leistner, and Parker Springman.
