Despite battling team injuries, varsity volleyball went 2-1 at the Covenant Christian Invite, placing 3rd out of 6 teams. The Cougars started the morning with a 2-1 win over Speedway High School. Greenfield-Central dropped the first set 21-25, but picked up momentum and rhythm in the second set to take it 25-14. GC came out ahead in the third set 15-10 to get their first win of the season. The second game of the day, the Cougars suffered their third loss of the season with an 0-2 match against Guerin Catholic. The Golden Eagles were a strong opponent and took both sets 12-25. The last game of the day was a battle against Herron High School. Despite losing another key player to an injury during the Guerin Catholic game, the Cougars proved their depth and versatility by winning the first set against Herron 25-22. Greenfield struggled to stay in the zone and got down 1-9 early in set two. They fought back but they couldn't come recover from the deficit, and ultimately lost the second set 20-25. With determination and drive, the varsity volleyball team was able to finish the third set with a final score of 15-6. Despite last minute changes (due to the injuries of two key varsity players), the Cougars added two games to the win column for this season. Varsity volleyball is now 2-3 this season; next they will face Waldron High School on the road, Mon 8/25.
