GC vs. Batesville – Kickin’ for Cancer Tournament Opener GC kicked off the Kickin’ for Cancer tournament with an energetic start against Batesville. Aubrey Bush came out strong, taking two shots in the first two minutes and setting the tone for the match. Midway through the first half, Batesville shifted to a more aggressive attack, but GC responded with solid defensive work to counter their push. Halftime: 0-0 To start the second half, we adjusted our formation to better establish control. The match remained tightly contested, with chances on both ends. Mayrin Rodriguez, Paige McCarley, Jessica Kleinknight, Ainsley Robinson and Lexi Kerkhof played key roles in securing the midfield, helping GC maintain possession and create opportunities. The defensive line—Brooklyn Emmerling, Camilla Aldridge, Kinley Smith, and Paislee Brown—worked tirelessly to keep the pressure off our goalkeeper. Chloe Gardener played a versatile role throughout the match being the player of the match, ending up in several positions to support the team. On the wings, Robinson, Romie Bennett and Lucy Blanton brought great energy and pace. At the 22-minute mark of the second half, Bush pushed up the left side, broke into the six-yard box, and delivered a perfectly timed pass to Robinson, who finished with her right foot for the first goal of both the match and the season. The final minutes saw continued back-and-forth play from both sides, but GC held on for the 1-0 victory. Caroline Felver recorded a shutout with 9 saves.
