Greenfield-Central Varsity Cougars couldn’t overcome an early deficit Wednesday night, falling to Shelbyville 4-2 in Game 1 of the conference series. Despite a dominant outing from Parker Rhodes—who struck out 10 over five innings and allowed just three hits—Shelbyville capitalized on key opportunities, including a solo homer in the second and a three-run third inning that proved to be the difference. Offensively, the Cougars saw hits from Carter Ellis, Brady Johnson, Zander Cobb, Nick Flench, Ethan Ortwein, and Gavin Markus. Ellis and Markus each picked up an RBI in the effort. Brady Martin tossed two innings in relief, allowing just one earned run while striking out three. Greenfield-Central looks to bounce back tonight in the conference finale at Shelbyville. The Cougars now sit at 12-12 on the season.
