After a dominant win in Game 1, the Greenfield-Central Varsity Cougars couldn’t keep the momentum rolling in Game 2, falling to Guerin Catholic 9–2 on Saturday. Guerin Catholic opened the scoring early with a run in the first and pulled away with a big third inning, capped by a two-run homer to center field by Tate Troxell. The Golden Eagles totaled eight runs in the first four frames. Walker Miller got the start for GC and took the loss, tossing 3.1 innings and allowing eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits while striking out four. Maddux Lugar and Carter Ellis worked the final 1.2 innings, combining to give up just one run. Offensively, the Cougars struggled to get much going, finishing with three hits from Brady Johnson, Hayden Zellers, and Dylan Luther. Luther and Hayden Kidd drove in the Cougars' two runs. Greenfield-Central showed some patience at the plate, drawing four walks. Defensively, the Cougars turned two double plays, but early damage and strong pitching from Guerin Catholic proved too much. With the split on Saturday, Greenfield-Central now sits at 12–10 on the season. The Cougars are back in action Tuesday with a road matchup at Shelbyville.
