Rhodes Dominates as Cougars Take Game One Over Mt. Vernon

FINAL: Greenfield-Central 4, Mt. Vernon 1 The Cougars opened their series against Mt. Vernon with a strong 4-1 win at home behind another masterclass performance from Parker Rhodes on the mound. The senior right-hander was dominant once again, tossing a complete game with 13 strikeouts, scattering just four hits while allowing no earned runs. Greenfield-Central’s offense executed in key moments. After scratching across a run in the third, the Cougars added another in the fifth on a sacrifice fly RBI by Hayden Kidd. They broke the game open in the sixth with two insurance runs, sparked by a Brady Johnson RBI single and smart baserunning from Zellers, Ellis, and Welch. Mt. Vernon managed their lone run in the sixth following a Cougar error, but Rhodes shut things down from there, retiring the final batters and sealing the win.
