The Greenfield-Central Varsity Cougars wrapped up a long five-game week with a 10-0 loss to McCutcheon on Saturday. Fatigue showed as the Cougars, playing their fifth game in six days, couldn’t keep pace with McCutcheon’s offensive pressure and sharp pitching. Greenfield-Central had a few scoring chances, including a pair of hits from Cooper Safford and Dylan Luther, and a walk from Hayden Zellers. Carter Ellis also added a base hit, but the Cougars were held scoreless through five innings. Dylan Luther got the start on the mound, allowing four runs (two earned) across three innings. Carson Richardson and Cooper Safford finished the game in relief. McCutcheon broke things open with a six-run fourth inning, capitalizing on timely hits and Cougar errors to put the game out of reach. The Cougars fall to 10-9 overall and 7-3 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference, still holding a share of the conference lead. They’ll turn their attention to a key HHC matchup this week as they aim for a series sweep over Mt. Vernon.
