The Cougars couldn’t overcome a strong outing from New Palestine’s Rigg Mahurin on Wednesday night, dropping the conference matchup 7-1. Offensively, Greenfield-Central was led by Zander Cobb, who ripped a double in the top of the 7th and later came around to score the team’s lone run on a groundout from Cooper Safford. Brady Johnson and Hayden Zellers also chipped in with singles. Parker Rhodes started on the bump and gave us three solid innings—striking out six and allowing just two runs. Brady Martin came in with 4 Ks of his own, and Carson Richardson closed it out with a strikeout in relief. The Dragons broke things open in the third inning on back-to-back hit batters, then added a 3-run homer in the 5th and another 2-run shot in the 6th to stretch the lead. Defensively, we played clean baseball—no errors—and Zander Cobb handled 11 chances behind the plate.
