Greenfield-Central couldn’t turn solid offense and shutdown relief into a win Thursday night, falling 7-4 to Delta despite recording more hits than the Eagles. Zander Cobb continued to stay locked in at the plate, going 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs to lead the Cougar offense. Jacob Welch and Carter Ellis each added a hit and a run scored, while Gavin Markus chipped in with a hit of his own. The Cougars jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Delta responded with a big bottom half, scoring three runs to flip the momentum. The Eagles added four more in the second to stretch the lead. Walker Miller started on the mound for GC and took the loss, going two innings and allowing four hits and seven earned runs. Maddux Lugar pitched a third of an inning in relief before Dylan Luther entered and dominated, throwing 3.2 hitless innings, striking out four, and walking four to keep the Cougars in the game. Greenfield-Central worked six walks at the plate and showed patience throughout the lineup, with Hayden Kidd drawing two free passes. Despite the tough loss, the Cougars flashed solid at-bats, bullpen strength, and defensive hustle.
