Men's Track & Field defeats New Palestine and Shelbyville

The Cougars (78 points) won their home opener against New Palestine (61 points) and Shelbyville (28 points). On the track the Cougars opened with a win in the 4x800 from the team of Henry Rahe, Bryce Cotterman, Will. Erwin and David Wasson (8:40). Then in the 100 took 4 of the top 5 spots with Jalen Stuckey 1st (11.16), Jordin Jones 3rd (11.61), Austin Kincer 4th (11.62), and Ian Erwin 5th (11.69). In the 1600 Bryce Cotterman out sprinted New Palestine's Mike Bauer to win in 4:36. Jack Wait was 3rd (4:43), and Henry Rahe 4th (4:58). The Men's 4x100 team (John Stuckey, Austin Kincer, Jordin Jones, Jalen Stuckey) fell just shy to New Palestine (44.06). Garrett Jack finished 2nd in the 400 (52.66). Everett Bishop finished 3rd in the 300 hurdles (43.63). In the 800, Will Erwin went from 3rd to 1st in the homestretch to win in a time of 2:08. In the 200 Jalen Stuckey won (23.27) with Everett Bishop 4th 24.07. Not scoring but just behind were Ian Erwin 5th (24.09) and John Stuckey (24.29). In the 3200, Peter Hummel finished just behind Shelbyville's Shia Veach to finish second with a time of 10:19. The 4x400 team of Garrett Jack, Austin Kincer, Will Erwin, and Jordin Jones finished 1st in 3:31. In the field, the Cougars dominated the throwing events taking the top 6 spots in discus and the top 2 spots in the shot put. In the discus Von Quigley won (148'9"), followed by Zach Blevens in second (144'2"), Jase Gustin 3rd (115'5"), Kyle Gregoire 4th (112'2"), Ben Warburton 5th (110'10"), and Frank Titus 6th (110'2"). In the shot put Von Quigley won (43'9") and Zach Blevens was 2nd (42'2"). The Cougars won both the high jump with Bradley Streveler clearing 6'4" and long jump with John Stuckey jumping 19'5". In the pole vault, Liam Taylor cleared 11'0" to finish 4th. Several Cougars had lifetime bests, and so far this season 47 of 54 athletes have already had a lifetime best in at least one event.
