The girls varsity volleyball team had a long day of volleyball at the Cougar Challenge, playing four different games. In the first match against Pike, the Cougars were able to win by scores of 25-18 and 25-14. The second game against South Decatur posed a challenge for GC. Despite Greenfield leading most of the first set, they were unable to close out, and South Decatur took set one 25-23. The Cougars stormed back in the second set and won 25-11. In a close third set, the Cougars had the opportunity to win, but South Decatur ultimately took the set 17-15. Going into the third game of the day, the girls still had hope that they could make it to the championship match if they defeated Whiteland, since they took down South Decatur in two sets. Greenfield-Central came out with energy and confidence. They took the first set 25-15. The second set was a much closer score, but GC was able to secure the win 26-24, putting them in the championship match. Greenfield faced Batesville in the championship match, the only team to go 3-0 in pool play (against Lapel, Covenant Christian, and Warren Central). Batesville controlled the entire first set, and won 25-8. But GC wasn't done fighting. They made adjustments, and came back in the second set and won 25-18. The whole day came down to a third set between Greenfield and Batesville. Through limiting unforced errors and capitalizing on certain rotations, the Cougars were able to walk away with the win at 15-11. Harper Holden and Makenna Rankins were nominated for the All-Tournament team. Makenna Rankins also broke the school record for most career assists in our third match of the day against Whiteland.
