The varsity volleyball team went 3-1 at the Cougar Challenge tournament today, making it to the championship game but ultimately falling to Batesville. The Cougars first took on Warren Central, and won both sets by scores of 25-16 and 25-12. Then GC played South Decatur, and won two straight sets again, claiming the wins at 25-20 and 25-13. The Cougars earned their spot in the championship match when they took down the Lapel Bulldogs 25-13 and 25-16. In the first set against Lapel, senior Alex Muegge broke the 21-year school record for most digs in a career! The previous record was 1027 set in 2005 by Lindsey House. In the championship match, the Cougars dropped their first set of the day when the Batesville Bulldogs narrowly took set one 25-23. Batesville got up to an early lead in set two with a score of 8-1. GC chipped away at the lead and brought it within 2 points at 10-8. Then the Bulldogs pushed for a win in set two with a score of 25-16. Alex Muegge, Olivia Reeves, and Ava Bricker were recognized as a part of the All-Tournament Team. Varsity volleyball is now 15-10 this season.
