GC Tennis Goes 2-1 at Whiteland Invitational The Greenfield-Central Cougars traveled to Whiteland on Saturday to compete in the Whiteland Tennis Invitational, which featured Peru, Jennings County, Whiteland, and Greenfield-Central. In Round 1, the Cougars faced #18 Whiteland. Greenfield-Central looked strong early, but Whiteland was able to take control and earn the team victory. 1S Nathan Roberts picked up the Cougars’ lone win, winning 6-0, 7-5. 2S Nash Berty took the first set 6-2 before falling 0-6, 5-10. 3S Raleigh Gantt lost 3-6, 2-6. In doubles, Andrew White/Jacob Welch fell 4-6, 1-6, while Jack Herrin/Kayden Green lost 5-7, 1-6. The Cougars bounced back in Round 2 with a 4-1 victory over Peru. Roberts battled back to win at 1S, 3-6, 6-2, 10-6. Berty dominated at 2S, winning 6-2, 6-0. Gantt fought through another long match at 3S but came up just short, 5-7, 6-3, 9-11. In doubles, Welch/White won 6-4, 6-1, while Herrin/Green cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Greenfield-Central closed out the day with a 5-0 sweep of Jennings County, finishing the invitational with a 2-1 record. The Cougars swept all three singles matches, with Roberts winning at 1S, White stepping in at 2S, and Green playing his first varsity singles match at 3S. All three won 6-0, 6-0. In doubles, Welch/Herrin teamed up for a 6-0, 6-4 victory, while Berty/Gantt won 6-1, 6-0.
