GC Boys Tennis Falls Just Short Against Columbus North The Greenfield-Central boys tennis team fell just short against a strong Columbus North team Thursday night, dropping a 3-2 decision in a back-and-forth match. One of the goals for the Cougars this season was to add tougher competition to the schedule, and this match certainly delivered. GC competed from start to finish against a talented Columbus North squad, but ultimately came up just short. The highlight of the night came at No. 1 singles, where Nathan Roberts battled for more than three hours to earn an incredible comeback victory. Roberts and Columbus North's Alec Devidze were both Second Team All-State selections last season, so it was expected to be a great matchup from the start—and it certainly lived up to the hype. After dropping the first set 2-6, Roberts responded with a 6-3 win in the second set to force a deciding third set. The third set was a marathon of its own, going all the way to 6-6 before a deciding third-set tiebreaker. Roberts found himself down 4-6 in the tiebreaker but answered with two straight points to even the score at 6-6. After falling behind 6-7, Roberts once again fought back to tie it at 7-7. He then took an 8-7 lead, saw his opponent answer to make it 8-8, and battled back to earn a 9-8 advantage before finally closing out the match 10-8. 3 singles Nash Berty earned the other point for the Cougars. Berty continued to show improvement in his first varsity season as he held on to win the first set 7-5 and took control of the second winning 6-3. GC Results: 1S Nathan Roberts def.
