Varsity vs Batesville High School (1-2) Loss The Cougars battled Batesville this morning after a weather delay in a hard-fought varsity match. Carol Felver came up with several big saves throughout the first half as both teams battled back and forth. GC created several dangerous opportunities, including breakaways from Aubrey Bush and Jessica Kleinknight but Batesville’s goalkeeper kept the Cougars off the board. Halftime: 0–0 The second half continued with both teams trading chances. Felver and Millie Aldridge came up with important defensive saves to keep GC in the match. With 20 minutes remaining, Lexi Kerkhof stepped up with a 20-yard strike that cleared the goalkeeper and gave the Cougars a 1–0 lead! Batesville answered with a penalty kick in the 23rd minute to make it 1–1, then found the go-ahead goal shortly after to take a 2–1 lead. Kerkhof nearly answered with a free kick from just outside the 18, but the Batesville goalkeeper made the save. She-Hulk player of the match goes to defensive player Brown. Final: GCHS 1 – Batesville 2 A tough result, but plenty to build on. The Cougars showed fight, created opportunities and battled until the final whistle.
