Cougars Advance Strong Group Through Sectional With Championships, Records, and Breakthrough Performances The Greenfield-Central girls track and field team delivered one of its strongest performances of the season at the IHSAA Sectional, highlighted by sectional championships, school records, personal bests, and multiple regional qualifiers. Leading the way for the Cougars was sectional champion Juliann Jones in the 400 meter dash. Jones raced to a personal-best time of 59.31 to win the event and secure a regional berth. Jones also added another outstanding performance in the long jump, placing second with a personal-best leap of 17 feet, 0.25 inches. Greenfield-Central also crowned a sectional champion in the pole vault as Aspen Wiswell cleared 9 feet to capture the title. Fellow Cougar Zoey Bauer continued her breakout season by finishing fifth with a personal-best vault of 8 feet, 6 inches. Bauer later received a callback to regionals after vaulting high enough to qualify on height. Freshman Mia Brinkruff delivered a historic performance in the 1600 meters, placing second in 5:02.03 while breaking her own school record by more than three seconds. Brinkruff also finished runner-up in the 800 meters with a time of 2:20.93 and anchored the Cougars to a second-place finish in the 4x800 relay. The 4x800 relay team of Adalyn Cole, Josie Kinnaman, Alexis Kerkhof, and Brinkruff ran 9:46.89 to place second and advance to regionals. Kinnaman also placed third individually in the 3200 meters in 11:18.91. Additional regional callbacks came from several Cougars who produced fast enough marks to advance despite not earning automatic qualifying spots. Alexis Kerkhof received a callback after running a personal-best 5:25.61 in the 1600 meters to place fourth, while Adalyn Cole also advanced after finishing fourth in the 800 meters in 2:26.54.
