Greenfield-Central delivered a memorable night at the Franklin Central Distance Showcase, highlighted by an incredible sequence in the girls 1600 meters where the school record was broken twice within a span of 30 minutes. The evening first belonged to Josie Kinnaman, who lowered her own Greenfield-Central school record with a strong performance of 5:11.28. Kinnaman’s race continued her standout season and appeared to cement another milestone in Cougar distance history. But just a half hour later, teammate Mia Brinkruff took to the track in a later heat and raised the bar once again. Brinkruff surged to a 5:09.28 finish, setting a new Greenfield-Central school record and capping one of the most impressive one-night displays in program history. The milestone was especially impressive for Brinkruff, a freshman who now owns four school records for the Cougars. Along with the new 1600-meter mark, she has also been part of record performances in the cross country 5K, 4x800 relay, and distance medley relay. The back-to-back record performances showcased the strength of Greenfield-Central’s distance program and the competitive environment the Cougars have built. To have one athlete break the school record is special. To have two teammates do it in the same event on the same night is remarkable. Greenfield-Central also received a strong performance from Adalyn Cole, who ran 5:30.50 in her heat against quality competition. Cole’s effort added to the Cougars’ depth and rounded out a successful evening. Competing at Franklin Central against a talented field, Greenfield-Central proved it can compete with some of the state’s best. But the headline of the night belonged to Brinkruff and Kinnaman, whose record-setting races turned an already strong meet into a historic one for the Cougars.
