The Greenfield-Central girls tennis team dropped a competitive 4-1 decision to Alexandria on Thursday night, with several matches going down to the wire. Kate Gilkison secured the lone point for the Cougars in dominant fashion at No. 1 singles, cruising to a 6-2, 6-0 victory. At No. 2 singles, Anna McQueeney battled in a tightly contested match but fell 3-6, 4-6, unable to find the key break at crucial moments. Lila Wagner rounded out singles play at No. 3, dropping a 0-6, 2-6 decision. At No. 1 doubles, Lauren Page and Lucy Stewart took the opening set 6-4 before Alexandria responded, handing them a 4-6, 4-6 loss. Similarly, the No. 2 doubles team of Chloe Kiser and Audrey Marcum opened with a 6-4 first-set win but couldn’t maintain momentum, falling 2-6, 2-6 in the final two sets. Despite a strong start and several highly competitive matches against a solid Alexandria team, the Cougars know there’s still work to be done and will look to build on the effort as they return to practice.
