Greenfield Central opened up conference play in style, topping New Castle 4-3 Tuesday night to move to 4-2 on the season in a hard-fought pitchers duel. Brady Martin was outstanding on the mound, taking the ball first and working 5 strong innings, allowing just 2 earned runs while striking out 6. Parker Springman followed in relief before Steven Walker slammed the door, tossing a perfect final inning with 2 strikeouts to earn the win. The Cougars struck first in the opening inning and never trailed, but New Castle battled back to tie the game at 3 in the top of the sixth. Greenfield Central answered right back in the bottom of the sixth when a New Castle error allowed the go-ahead run to score, proving to be the difference in the game. Hayden Zellers led the offense going 2-for-4 from the leadoff spot. Henry Close and Walker Miller each drove in a run to pace the Cougar attack.
