The Greenfield-Central girls track and field team returned to action on March 21 at the Red Devil Classic HSR Qualifier at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, highlighted by strong sprint performances from a talented freshman class and solid contributions across multiple events. Freshman Liberty Williams led the way for the Cougars in the sprints, running 8.52 in the 60-meter dash preliminaries. The performance moves her to sixth all-time in school history, continuing an impressive start to her high school career. She is joined by fellow freshman Camilla Aldridge, who has also made her mark early in the season, as the two now rank fourth and sixth all-time in the event for Greenfield-Central. Williams also contributed to the Cougars’ 4x200-meter relay team alongside Camilla Aldridge, Naomi Campbell, and Brooklyn Emmerling. The group finished ninth overall with a time of 2:00.82. In distance events, Mia Brinkruff turned in a strong performance with a second-place finish in the 3200 meters, crossing the line in 11:31.45. The Cougars added another relay performance in the distance medley relay, where Addison Gordon, Camilla Aldridge, Cerenity Minchin, and Kamryn Smith placed sixth in 14:33.64. In the hurdles, Brooklyn Emmerling led Greenfield-Central in the 60 meter hurdles preliminaries with a time of 10.72, while Cerenity Minchin added a time of 12.67. Field events saw Abbey Malet place fifth in the high jump with a clearance of 4 feet, 10 inches. Naomi Campbell recorded a mark of 13 feet, 10 inches in the long jump, and Hadley Hill led the shot put group with a throw of 31 feet, 11 inches, followed by Evelyn Schini at 24 feet, 9 inches. Overall, the Cougars showed continued growth across all event areas, with the emergence of their freshman sprinters providing an exciting highlight as the indoor season progresses.
