Thursday night at home against their rivals New Palestine, the Greenfield Central JV men's basketball team gave a great effort all game long. Noah Benjamin had a very strong performance. He finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and had 6 assists. Gabriel Everhart also turned in a strong performance scoring 10 points and grabbing 8 rebounds. Palmer Allender scored 11 points, Ethan Swift finished with 9, wile Kyson Nicholson had 8. The Cougars had a 57 - 50 lead with about 5 minutes left in the game, but some unfortunate turnovers and empty possessions on the offensive end led to their downfall. With 15 seconds left in the game they had a 2 point lead and the ball. Allender inbounded the ball to Caden Egan. With Dragons trying to foul him Egan struggle to handle the ball and turned it over leading to a shot and a foul. The Dragons made one of two free throws but got their own rebound on the second free throw. They then called timeout. Coming out of the timeout the Dragons found a cutter who slipped to the basket off a screen and scored giving them a 64-63 lead. The cougars had a shot to win it but it went off the rim and the cougars fell. The team plays again next Friday at home against Yorktown.
