The Lady Cougars evened their record on the season to 1 - 1 with a great come from behind overtime win against Martinsville. Despite a poor shooting night from behind the arc, the Cougars used a never-give-up attitude and timely 3-point shoot to secure the 7 point win. The Cougars trailed by 3 at half. The Artesians increased their lead by another three points during the 3rd quarter, and by another three half way through the 4th to lead by 9 with approximately 4 minutes left to play. Over the next four minutes the Cougars increased the defensive pressure and hit some key buckets to pull with in three with less than 9 seconds to go in the game. On the final play of regulation Izzy Silcox drove the length of the floor and into the lane, where she stopped and kicked the ball out to freshman Lexi Kerkhof who was traiiling the play, for a game tying 3-pointer from the top of the key as time expired. In the overtime session, Martinsville opened the scoring with a three from senior Ruby Murrell. The Cougars scored the next 10 points and held Martinsville scoreless for the remainder of overtime to come away with the 49 - 42 victory. It was a great team win for the Cougars with eight players contributing quality minutes towards the victory. The Cougars were led in scoring by junior Izzy Silcox and freshman Lexi Kerkhof who scored 21 and 18 points respectively. Senior Ruby Murrell was the only Artesian in double figures with 16. The Cougars are back in action next Tuesday with a JV Only game at home on Tuesday at 6:00 against Eastern Hancock, and a JV/Varsity home game on Thursday against Beech Grove with the JV starting at 6:00 and Varsity to follow at approximately 7:30
