Greenfield, IN (September 10, 2019) – Greenfield Central Varsity Volleyball beat Cowan in four sets tonight.

After a slow start in the first set, the Cougars found their rhythm going into set two. Great passing in set two allowed our setters to get the middle hitters involved in the offense early on. Outside hitter, Ava Antic led the way with 14 kills but close behind was Makayla Price and Brooke Herrell with 9 each. Middle hitter, Kenley Carpenter finished the night with 8 kills and 4 blocks. Libero, Marissa Grigsby totaled 17 digs in three sets.

“Going into the second set we knew that we had to raise our energy and communication on the court,” said Coach Ron Heck. “The first set we came out with very little focus and energy. I’m really proud of how the girls responded to our adjustments going into set two. We stressed to our setters Morgan Hornaday and Ali Knecht to get our middles involved in the offense and they did a great job of that. Our middles, Kenley Carpenter and Molly Schwarkopf played a huge part in momentum shifts. The team has to remember that we can never take one opponent lightly.”

The Cougars are back in action on the road against New Castle High School. The JV match begin at 6:00pm with Varsity to follow.
