Lady Cougars come up clutch in game that some may remember as the “Aztec” game. Perhaps it was the closeness of the game, maybe it was because the wind was blowing hard straight in from center or maybe both coaches thought the sun was dying as the teams combined for 9 sacrifices total. For the Lady Cougars themselves it was just another day at the ballpark as once again they pulled off an exciting win. The game started off well for the Lady Cougars with 3 of first 4 batters walking before Emily Francis hit a SACRIFICE Fly to center on what may have been Grand Slam if wind was blowing as hard in opposite direction. The Cougars managed to score 3 more in top of 3rd when Shamrocks made a couple of errors and Macy Francis made them pay with a triple. For the Cougars on defense thinks started off like they were use to with Alexi “Heatmizer” starting on mound and giving up no runs and only 1 hit after 3 innings. The Cougars bats slowed down the next 3 innings meanwhile the Shamrocks started using some of their lucky charms and scored couple runs in bottom of 4th off few errors. With the game still close things looked good for the Cougars with Heatmizer striking out 2 of 3 batter in bottom of 6th. Top of 7th Emily “Tomahawk” Francis was hit by pitch and you guessed it a sacrifice moved her over and a wild pitch put her in position to score on a play by Ellie Ewald. Going into bottom of 7th and lead of 5-3 the wind increased and the tempature began to drop and so did Heatmizer effectiveness. The Shamrocks dug deep into their 4 leaf clovers and found a way to score 2 in bottom of 7th (with help of a sacrifice) tying the game and causing extra inning. In top of 8th Kensie “BB” Bradley lead off with single and Megan “Megatron” Wineinger sacrificed her over and they intentionally walked Sam “Da Bulldog” Kihega. The next batter popped out and with game tied and 2 outs and a pitcher who was throwing high balls for majority of game, who do you send up to bat? Why none other than Emily “Tomahawk” Francis who made them pay for walking Sam with a 2 RBI double to right center. The Shamrock’s were not done with their lucky charms though and a leadoff double followed by strikeout and nice play by Hanna “No Folden” Holden at third looked to seal deal but the Cougars once again decided to give the fans their money worth and a single and walk put everyone on edge. With Shamrocks top of order up and a girl who was 3-4 up to that point and everyone on edge, what do you do? You send in Macy “Snoop” Fultz to close it out. Chillz Homies I gotz dis…With runners at first and second as soon as the ball was hit the Cougar fans all smiled or one could say they all “grinned” as once again the ball was hit to Keryna “Grin and” Barrett whom like in past last outs charged hard and quickly released ball to second and forced the game winning out by one step. The Lady Cougars improved to 8-1 and will have few days to rest and recover before they play double header at Beech Grove on Saturday.
