Muncie, IN (October 8, 2020) – The Greenfield-Central Varsity Volleyball team traveled to their last HHC conference match of the season and swept the Delta Eagles.
The Cougars started off the match a little slow in the first set but gained momentum which they carried into the second and third sets. In the third set the team was carried by strong serving which kept the Eagles out of system throughout the whole time.
Senior Outside Hitter Ava Antic led the way offensively with 12 kills. Senior Right Side Hitter Brooke Herrell followed closely behind with 11 kills, eight of her 11 came in the third. Rachel Campbell and Makayla Price each recorded 11 digs . Senior Middle Blocker Molly Schwarzkopf led the team in blocks with five. Junior Setter Morgan Horanday tallied 18 assists.
“I am very happy with how the girls played tonight,” said second-year head coach Ron Heck. “Tonight Brooke Herrell was unstoppable on the right side, specifically in the third set with eight kills. Makayla Price and Rachel Campbell both had very strong serving in the last set which allowed us to create as big of a lead as we did. After the loss against HSE, we really wanted to focus on playing as a team this last match before sectionals. We were looking to take momentum and confidence as we prepare ourselves for sectionals, I believe that we have achieved that. I am looking forward to the next few days of practice to prepare us.”
The team is taking the court once again on Tuesday October 13th against Pendleton Heights High School in the opening round of sectionals.
