Cougar female wrestlers Autumn Thaxton, Livia Quigley, and Chloe Pike traveled to Franklin High School to compete in the IHSGW South Regional. At 113 pounds, Thaxton won her first match by fall in 5:56. She then lost in the quarter finals to drop into the wrestle backs where she lost again, ending her run. Livia Quigley, at 138 pounds, dropped her opening match by fall. She then lost a heartbreaking 7-5 decision in overtime to drop her into the 5th & 6th place match. She ended her evening with a solid 9-2 decision to claim 5th place. She will be an alternate at next week’s State Finals at Hamilton Heights. At 160 pounds, Chloe Pike fell in the quarter finals to drop into the wrestle backs, where she won a closely contested battle by pinning her opponent in 4:55, advancing to the 3rd & 4th place match. She fell by fall in the placement match, settling for 4th place and qualifying for a spot in next week’s State Finals. This is the 3rd year for the girl’s tournament, and the first time GC has had girls competing. As a team, the Cougars finished in 14th place among the 40 teams who entered contestants.
