Meet Recap

The Greenfield-Central Lady Cougars completed a week that had all runners setting either a season or career best time with a team championship at the Jon Mitchell Invitational hosted by Cascade High School on Saturday. The cougars placed 5 runners in the top 16 to claim the title.

Audrey Brinkruff led the team with a second place finish. Brinkruff was followed to the line by Sydney Cook in 4th in a season best time. Sarah Muckerheide placed 9th with Lindsey Pope placing 14th and Darian Gossett 16th. Dusti Chestnut (21st) and Brenna Ditto (23rd) rounded out the varsity performances for the Cougars.

Lucy Conner place 3rd in the JV race.

G-C is in action again on Tuesday at the Muncie Central Invitational.

Game Recap

Greenfield-Central defeated #1 in 1A 3 sets to 2. The match showcased several lead changes and two, late come from behind runs by both teams. For the first time this season three players tallied double digit kill marks Antic (21), Price (19) and Pribble (12). Four players also recorded double digit dig numbers Pribble (19), Price (17), Antic (13) and Francis (13). Other significant statistics included Junior Mary Voigt who recorded a career best 4 aces and Freshman Makayla Price who recored 3 aces.

The Cougars lost in 4 sets to the McCutcheon Mavericks 25-16, 18-25, 15-25, 11-25. Greenfield-Central’s offensive performance was paced by Freshman Makayla Price who recorded 13 kills and had 9 digs. Other notable offensive numbers were Freshman Ava Antic who recored 10 kills with 7 digs and Junior Opposite Haleigh Pribble who had 6 kills with 7 digs.

Game Recap

The G-CHS Varsity Football team dropped a heartbreaker on the road to Pendleton Heights.
THe Cougars showed resilience and great character in fighting from behind.

The Cougars were led on offense by a gutsy performance from Senior QB Andrew Leslie who returned from an ankle injury and threw 3 touchdowns. Senior WR Orlando Mojicahad 102 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns. Senior RB Braden Brown had an explosive game with averaging 6 yards a carry and a huge touchdown in the 3rd quarter.

The Cougars were led on defense by Senior LB A.J. Dodds with 10 tackles and 1 sack, Junior Emmet Houser with 9 tackles and a Sack, Senior DB Chase Ratliff with 9 tackles, and Junior DB Jaden Brown with 8 tackles.

The Cougars drop to 2-2 and 1-1 in the HHC. They return home next week to face off against Shelbyville. This is the G-CHS Homecoming and kickoff is at 7:30.

The Cougars fell 0-3 to the New Castle Trojans last night. For the 6th time this season 3 or more players tallied 7+ kills in the Match. Ava Antic and Makayla Price paced the team with 8 kills each and Junior Opposite Haleigh Pribble added 7.

Greenfield-Central is back in action this weekend at McCutcheon High School for a neutral site match against 1A #1 Lafayette Central Catholic and McCutcheon.

Meet Recap

The Cougars had a very tight match Thursday night against Knightstown. The long night would end up consisting of 2 tie breaks and 2 third set matches before Knightstown came away with a 5-0 victory. Even with the loss, the Cougars were playing some of their best tennis of the season. 2 doubles Sam Galyean and Garrett McKee were 1 game away from beating an unbeaten Knightstown doubles team and 3 singles Bradley McDowell looked more consistent as he played an exciting match that continued to go back and forth. The JV team tied 3-3. The Varsity team is now 4-7 and the JV is 3-4-1. The Cougars will play at County this Saturday.

Greenfield-Central lost a tight match to county rival Mt. Vernon on Tuesday night. 1 singles Kole Willis and 3 singles Mason Bussel kept the match close for the Cougars. Bussel took a quick victory at 3 singles winning 6-2, 6-3 and Willis was able to fight off Matthew McCullough’s third set hopes by winning a second set tie breaker. At the end of the night it was Mt. Vernon’s sweep of doubles and win at 2 singles that gave them the victory. The JV team also lost 0-6. The Cougars are now 4-6.
