Greenfield-Central swept the Hoosier Heritage Conference swimming and diving championships Saturday, with the G-C boys winning their ninth consecutive title and the Cougar girls reclaiming the championship for the third time in four years.
G-C’s boys won a race over Mt. Vernon with 397 points, with the Marauders tallying 330 and third-place Delta 316. The G-C girls won with 429 points, with runner-up Pendleton Heights tallying 388. Third-place Yorktown had 334 points.
The G-C girls won four events, with Carley Logan a triple-winner. She won the 200 free, 500 free and joined Anne Marie Dekeyser, Sarah Stutz and Megan Coffin in the winning 400 free relay. Coffin had the Cougars’ other event victory in the 100 butterfly.
Defending state champion Emily Weiss of Yorktown had a pair of individual victories, winning the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke. The Tigers’ Ellie Alexander also had a victory in the 100 freestyle. Shelbyville had three event wins – Karissa Hamilton, Ellie Hamilton, Grace Lux and Marlee Rice won both the 200 medley and 200 free relays. Karissa Hamilton also won the 50 free to become a three-time conference champion. The other event winners were Graycen Neu of Delta (diving) and Pendleton Heights’ Lily Brooks (100 backstroke).
G-C won seven of the 12 events in the boys meet, including two relays. Travis Black was a quadruple winner, as he won the 50 and 100 freestyle and was part of the Cougars’ two winning relays. Samuel Jennings won two individual events, the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, and was part of a winning relay for three conference titles.
G-C’s other individual winner was Samuel Logan, who won the 100 backstroke. He was a triple-champion, as he was also part of two winning relays. Logan and Black joined Drew Noah and Jackson Pechin to win the 200 medley relay. Jennings, Logan, Black and Anthony Nagel won the 400 free relay.
Mt. Vernon’s Aiden Tierney was a double-winner, taking the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke.
Delta had three victories. Sam Bennett won in diving. Brady Samuels won the 100 butterfly and joined Daniel Ginder, Ryan VanPelt and Sam Arnold to win the 200 free relay.
