IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week (2-19-18)
“Promoting education based athletics in Indiana”
With the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea coming to a close this week, it was easy to notice the good sportsmanship shown throughout all the events.
While every individual competitor was trying to win, they were also willing to show respect and gratitude to those who beat them. Are you a person that can be happy for someone else’s success, even if you lose to that person or team?
How do you show and express good sportsmanship? Let’s be honest, it should be much more than a handshake at the end of an event or game. Sportsmanship can and should be shown throughout the entire event.
So the next time a situation calls for showing good sportsmanship, win or lose, how will you react? Think about how you like to be treated in difficult or losing times, and return that favor to your competitor. That’s the right thing to do!
