The GC Lady Cougars started the season off strong with a win over Mt. Vernon and Frankton on Tuesday. Seniors Shelby Bowmer, Savannah Girolami, Samara Fletcher and Amanda Flora looked great tonight. Bowmer won the 100 was second in the 200 and was part of the winning 4 x 100 relay team. Amanda Flora was third in the 100 and was also part of the 4 x 100 team. Girolami won the 200 and 400 meter dashes. Samara Fletcher won the 100 and 300 meter hurdles. Juniors Katie Helgason, Ava Dickmann and Jenny Flora were also strong for the Lady Cougars. Dickmann won the high jump and long jump. Helgason was part of the winning 4 x 800, 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 meter relays. She was also second in long jump. Jenny Flora won both shot put and discus. Sydney Cook won the 800 an was also part of the 4x 8 along with Helgason, Rebekah Gottwald and Riley Sexton. Cook was also part of the winning 4 x 4 along with Helgason, Kenzie Polster, and Haleigh Loyal. Olivia Fortner was part of the 4 x 100 relay along with Bowmer, Flora and Helgason. Emily Jones won pole vault tonight followed by Kammie McGreal in second and Olivia Fortner in fourth. Others contributing to the win included Lindsey Pope – second in hurdles, Hannah Jessup third in hurdles and Sarah Kelly fourth in hurdles. Sarah Muckerheid second in the 3200 and 1600. Gottwald was also 4th in the 1600. Brenna Ditto was third in the 3200. Sarah Kelly was second in the 300m hurdles. Kenzie Polster was second in high jump and the 400. Hannah Burkhart second in discus and third in shot put. Coach Hacker was very pleased with the great attitude and team spirit of everyone!
